How do you use the Castle Creek Valley, and what issues have you encountered that may affect your experience?
The Castle Creek watershed is seeing an ever-increasing demand for recreational use on public lands. There is a continued desire for historical and environmental education in the valley and a long-standing expectation of residential and visitor solitude.
The U.S. Forest Service and Pitkin County are collaborating to identify management strategies that can be leveraged to support common goals for the valley, its roads, residences and trailheads and much more. Over the next year, the County and Forest Service are collecting stakeholder input and visitor use data to develop an existing conditions report. This report will help guide the County’s Castle Creek Master Plan Update and develop future collaborative Castle Creek Management Strategies.
We want your input and want to hear from all the users of this unique valley. Your comments will help the County and Forest Service identify values and resources critical to the Castle Creek watershed and determine what goals we should prioritize in managing this area.
